Eric J. Nethercott, 41, suddenly and unexpectedly. Late of Champaign-Urbana area but a true Chicago Guy at heart. Much beloved son of Richard and Nancy, brother of Emily and Lee Nethercott. Perfect grandson of the late Joseph and Joan Ricciuti and the late Richard and Eleanor Nethercott. Loving nephew of Laurie (the late John) Zawadzki, Trish (Pete) Gehrke, Jim (Jim) Ricciuti, the late Dan Nethercott. Cousin of Nicole and Danny Zawadzki. Also, his love, Rachel Newell. Survived by a great aunt, great uncle and many other cousins. True and loyal friend of Cliff, Tim, Ryan, Amit and the Loyola Crew: Arthur, Paul, Pat, Matt, Sabrina, Tim and the late Andrew. Also, teachers at North Ridge Middle School and Mark Denman Elementary School in Danville, IL, especially Brent, Ed, Josh, Ken, Jayme, Bill, Matt, Scott, Kay and many others. Also, best hiking friend and fellow special ed teacher Paul. Many teacher friends from New Orleans, especially Chris, France, Saudi Arabia, especially Aaron and Phil and South Korea. Kindred spirit and U of I mentor Joonkil Ahn as well as many U of I friends. Already missed by four-legged buddies Sawyer and Bella.
Eric loved his family, his friends, being an awesome teacher, books, all things history, travel (visited 30+ worldwide countries), nature, hiking, his collection of many historical artifacts gathered from around the globe and the Chicago Cubs. Eric was truly a modern-day renaissance man. Eric also loved his Toyota RAV4’s, one of which was driven throughout the Middle East and the other here in the US. Doctoral candidate (EdD) in EPOL at U.I.U.C., member of the Danville Symphony Orchestra Board and the Vermillion County Fair Board. Alumni of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic School, St. Ignatius College Prep School, Loyola University of Chicago, Xavier University of Louisiana and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Wake to be held at Lawn Funeral Home, 17909 S. 94th Ave Tinley Park, IL 60487 on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Additional Requiem Mass will be held at the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 208 W. University Ave., Champaign, IL 61820 on Saturday, May 4th at 10:00 AM with a Celebration of Life after Mass.
In lieu of flowers donations to the family will be used towards a children’s charity.
