Madeleine K. Maguire

December 28, 2024 – 10:00am cst
Madeleine Maguire (nee Kaveny) passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on December 15, 2024, at the age of 96 in Lemont, Illinois. Born December 21, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, Madeleine was formed by a lifelong devotion to her Catholic faith, which led to her belief in the importance of family, education, and kindness.
The matriarch of a large and vibrant family, Madeleine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert J. Maguire. Together they leave a rich legacy expressed through their children: Sheilah (Neil) Spangler, Dr. Bart (DeDee) Maguire, Neal Maguire, Tad (Dawn) Maguire, Quentin (Melissa) Maguire, Siobhan Maguire, and Flavia (Tim) Myers.
Madeleine’s love and guidance extended to her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Maclyn (Erin) Maguire, Madeleine (Brandan) Burgess, Harrison (fiancée Adrienne) Maguire, Kitty (Collin) Stich, Dr. Tad Maguire (Dr. Nicole Liberio), Devyn (Jared) Goldstein, Riley (fiancée Liz) Maguire, Mason Maguire, Kellyn Maguire, Ali (Greg) Dunn, and Nate and Sheilah Myers. Her great-grandchildren, Aniya, Zoey, Kimora, Finley, James, Noah and Graham also knew the warmth of her embrace and the wisdom of her words.
Madeleine was the cherished sister of the late John (the late Jean) Kaveny, Donna (the late Kurt) Metzler, and Maureen (the late Kevin) McKeough. She was the beloved aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom benefited from her nurturing presence and sage advice. Madeleine, her brother, and two sisters, echoing their own mother’s example, instilled in their children an enduring camaraderie that today draws almost one hundred of the ‘in-laws and out-laws’ to an annual summer vacation on the shores of Lake Michigan.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, she believed education was not confined to the classroom but rather a journey to be enjoyed through life. She modeled exceptional parenting and considered the formation of every child she encountered to be her responsibility. Her legacy remains not just in the family she raised but in the countless lives she touched in her 35 years working in the Center Cass School district.
Madeleine’s story does not end here. It lives on in her greatest accomplishment: the love and unity of the family she adored and the many lives she touched. May she rest in the comfort of God’s eternal home.
Madeleine donated generously to many organizations in her lifetime. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls whose Masses provided comfort during the pandemic, and Franciscan Village where she spent her final years, are appreciated.
