Mary Ann Hurley

Mary Ann Hurley (nee Hardin), 95 ½ years “Mature!” Mom was born on June 18, 1929 in the “small town” of Seymour, Indiana and baptized in the Church of St. Ambrose. At a young age, after her father’s sudden passing, Mom and her mother moved to the South Shore neighborhood where she was raised by her loving mother Hazel and her adoring Aunt Mary and Uncle Leo Okenfuss. She was the loving wife of 66 years to the late Dr. John “Jack” Hurley MD. They married on August 1, 1953 and a few weeks later set sail for Galway, Ireland where Dad attended medical school. She was the adored mother of John (Kathy), Joe (Donna), the late Scott, the late Annie, Brigid (Kevin) Oakes, the late infant Michael Patrick, Dan (Susie), Katie (Dennis) Kettering, Father Tom Hurley, Terri (Mike) Englehart. Loving Grandma to Katie (Dan) Liston, Frankie (Liz) Hurley, Mike (Cheryl) Hurley, Mary Ann (Luke) Rizzuto, Scott (Emma) Hurley, Owen Hurley, Michael Hurley, Kevin Oakes, Erin (Andrew) Tenneriello, Megan (Karl) Gotsch, Dan Hurley, Caroline (Aidan) Skelding, John Hurley, Abby Hurley, Patrick Hurley, Shannon (Lane) Istre, Matt Kettering, Brian Kettering, Charlie Kettering, Nora Englehart, Tom Englehart, Brigid Englehart, and Mary Englehart. Special “GG” to Packey, Jack, and Annie Liston, Aiden Rizzuto, Tara and Meadhbh Hurley, Remy and Emmett Tenneriello, Kate Gotsch. Beloved daughter of the late Scott and Hazel Hardin (Bachtell) and stepdaughter to the late Lloyd Bachtell. Devoted sister to Nora (Dick) Walther. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mom was a proud graduate of St. Philip Neri Catholic School, Aquinas High School for Girls, and the Little Company of Mary School of Nursing, class of 1950. A faithful member of St. Cajetan Church for 63 years, she embodied the best of the “Greatest Generation” of moms. She was known and adored by many in the parish. A beloved neighbor to all, she was affectionately known as the “Block Cop” of Campbell Avenue. Her ‘End of Watch’ was February 4, 2025 passing peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Visitation Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, February 14, 2025, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Curley Funeral Home, 6116 W. 111th St., Chicago Ridge, IL to St. Cajetan Church, 112th St. & Artesian Ave., Chicago, IL; Mass 11:00 a.m.; Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
