Amit Bir

Amit Bir passed away unexpectedly and far too soon on Friday, June 6, 2025 while playing a spirited game of tennis, just as he lived, with energy, good humour, and a fierce backhand. Born and raised in Montreal on June 1, 1970, he had just celebrated his 55th birthday.
Amit was the devoted husband of Claudia Esposito, the love of his life. He was the adoring, ever-proud father of sons Matteo and Luca. Predeceased by his beloved parents, Krishan and Kamla Bir, he carried their memory with him always. As an endearing son-in-law, he will be deeply missed by Bruno and Gildetta Esposito.
He will be greatly missed by his sister Anupa Bir and her husband Jack Maypole. Amit was a much-loved brother-in-law to Cristina Esposito; Fabio Esposito and his wife Sheila Picklyk; and Sandrina Esposito and her husband Nathanael Olson. To Krishan, Kiran, Kyna, Cris, Nicolas, Michela, Drea, Chiara, Liam and Emma, he was always “Uncle Amit” bringing light, laughter, and thoughtful musings to every family gathering. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who were lucky enough to call him family.
Amit built a remarkable career in business and technology, most recently serving as Vice President of Strategic Development at Zebra Technologies. Those who worked with him knew him not only as a strategic thinker and dynamic leader, but also as a compassionate mentor to many, who brought both a human touch and often a philosophical approach to each engagement. He had a sharp intellect paired with a sharper wit, and he delighted in poking fun at everyone – especially those he loved. He could command a room with his charisma and articulate insight, and then just as effortlessly be the person who listened quietly with the kind of focus that made you feel heard.
He had a deep love for life’s big questions and its small pleasures. Receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria Law School, and his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from McGill University, Amit was always a teacher at heart and believed deeply in the power of guidance and learning and always credited his own growth to the many mentors who shaped his journey. Amit was a philosopher in a business suit, a tennis player who was always ready with a joke in his pocket, and a loving father who was endlessly fascinated and inspired by the unfolding lives of his sons. He never missed a chance to share a meaningful conversation, a mischievous joke, or a piece of hard-won advice, often all in the same breath.
Above all, Amit will be remembered by his family and countless friends for his wit, warmth, wisdom, and the twinkle in his eye that signaled he was about to say something brilliant or lovingly provocative.
A Celebration of Amit’s Life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Glueckert Funeral Home 1520 N Arlington Heights Road from 4:30pm – 7:30pm. Sharing of memories and stories to begin at 5:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. A livestream of the event will begin at 5:30pm CDT, and a recording will be available afterwards for those unable to attend in person.
In honor of Amit’s lifelong passion for learning and critical thought, the family has established the Amit Bir Memorial Endowment Fund at McGill University. This scholarship will support students who demonstrate excellence in Philosophy.

The family would like to thank the emergency medical team and staff at Northwest Community Hospital and the amazing support of family and friends during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship fund that will be established in Amit’s name at McGill University (Montreal, Canada).
