Doris Kirkpatrick Bennett passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025. She was born on September 24, 1928, in Bloomington, IL, and was the beloved daughter of Julia and Harry Kirkpatrick, sister of Edwin Kirkpatrick and lived her childhood and teen years in Kankakee, IL. She went to the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana where she made a group of life-long friends and met her future husband to be, Richard Chisholm Bennett of Geneva, IL. Her favorite job of all time was working in the Executive Offices of Marshall Field & Company, and during this time she lived at Lewis Towers in Chicago. This is where her romance from the U of I with Dick Bennett turned into a proposal and marriage at Holy Name Cathedral, in a beautiful ceremony long remembered by the whole family.
Doris and Dick were long-time, loyal members of St. Lawrence O’Toole in Matteson, IL, and drew strength and comfort from their Catholic faith. In 2003, Doris and Richard happily celebrated their 50th Anniversary with friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, Cathie Bennett Warner, Cathie’s husband Chris Warner, and her grandchildren Christopher and Cody Warner of St. Helena, CA; her son Richard C. Bennett II and his wife Elizabeth Bennett of Hot Springs AR; and her niece Diane Bennett Simpson and Diane’s husband Daniel Simpson and their sons David and Bennett Simpson of Seattle, WA.
Doris and Richard raised their children in Park Forest, IL, where they lived for 50 years. They moved to Frankfort, IL, in retirement and upon the passing of her husband, Doris moved into Smith Crossing in Orland Park where she enjoyed a beautiful view of a lake from her apartment patio. She made many friends at Smith Crossing over the past 12 years and is fondly remembered by all as a lovely person. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She will be remembered on Thursday, July 3rd, at the Kurtz Frankfort Memorial Chapel 65 Old Frankfort Way Frankfort, IL. 60423 for visitation at 11a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12p.m. In lieu of sending flowers, contributions in her name would be welcomed at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
