Beloved son of the late Philip and Lois Teinowitz; father of Lucy and Reggie Teinowitz; brother of Nancy (Scott Barker) Teinowitz, Danny Teinowitz, and Billy Teinowitz; uncle of Cynthia Jane Teinowitz Jones and Elijah Teinowitz Barker; cousin of Ira (Dr. Martha Kanter) Teinowitz, the late Ellen (Andy Taylor) Teinowitz Taylor, Norman Teinowitz, Amy Teinowitz James, Robert (Anne Siebert) Teinowitz, Jennifer Stein, and Elizabeth Stein.
Born in Glencoe and a graduate of New Trier High School East, Harry attended the University of Kansas and earned his degree in Theatre from Columbia College Chicago. He launched a career in comedy and acting, with film roles in Up the Academy, Risky Business, The Package, and Return to Me. A talented stand-up comedian, he performed across the country before becoming one of Chicago’s most iconic sports radio voices.
Harry co-hosted The Harry & Spike Show on WMVP and later became a fixture on ESPN 1000’s Mac, Jurko, and Harry, also known as The Afternoon Saloon. A passionate fan of all Chicago teams—especially the Cubs—Harry brought humor, heart, and authenticity to the airwaves for more than two decades.
He had a lifelong love of horse racing, inspired by his father’s ownership of multiple Grade 1 winning racehorse and successful stallion CRYPTOCLEARANCE, and spent countless days at tracks with his brothers. In 2021, Harry co-wrote with his friend and radio partner Spike Manton the autobiographical play “When Harry Met Rehab”, which ran in Chicago and off-Broadway New York. The play reflected on time in rehab and his personal journey through addiction and recovery.
Harry was a liver transplant survivor, a devoted Bruce Springsteen fan, a natural storyteller, and a deeply kind soul who made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the joy he brought to so many.
