Louise M. Williams

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Louise Mae Williams at the age of ninety-nine, was called home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was born November 16, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the eldest of two children born to Eugene and Serena (Bulter) Francis. After the death of her mother Serena in childbirth, Mom’s aunt Bessie Butler Tatum (A. Henry Tatum) both deceased raised both Louise and her sister Ursula Serena. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister. For most of her childhood she lived next door to her seven cousins. All together there were nine children. Mom, her sister, and their seven cousins. They did everything together throughout their childhood. As they grew to adulthood, and finally into old age, the nine cousins remained very close to one another. Mom was the last to pass away. Now that she is gone, a whole generation of our family is gone too.
Mom was educated in the New York City Public School System. She attended Eastern District High School. After trying her hand at various office jobs, she discovered she enjoyed sewing. She became a seamstress in New York’s Garment District.
Mom married my father James (Jimmy) Alston in 1943. One child was born from this union, Elizabeth Sarah. After the death of my father, Mom met George Howard Williams. They were kindred spirits and married in June of 1966. The family grew to include Carol Williams Singleton and George Keith Williams.
Mom and Geore truly loved each other, their family, and traveling throughout the country and Canada. When George passed away in 2008, Mom moved from her beloved New York to Illinois to live with her daughter, son-in-law, grandsons, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mom was the heart of our family. She was so friendly and cheerful. She was known for her beautiful smile and dimples. She had an infectious laugh which lit up the room. She was always ready with a funny family story complete with embellishments which made the story even more hilarious.
Mom’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving daughter Elizabeth (William L. Rohlsen), stepdaughter Carol Williams Singleton, stepson, George Keith Williams. Grandchildren: William L. Rohlsen ll (Regina Rohlsen), Anthony Rohlsen, Tameka Williams Franklin, Tyrik Singleton, Cynthia Williams Dozier. Great-grandchildren: Melanie Palcuk White (Curtis), C’ne Rohlsen Green (James) Michelle Rohlsen Rothstein (Tyler), Anthony Jordan Rohlsen. Great-great-grandchildren: Jordan (deceased), Mckenzie, Jaylen, Jonah, Giselle, G’vonni, and Gia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
I will miss my mother tremendously, she was my best friend, and I will always carry her in my heart.
