Elsie A. Hafner Pichman, age 98 passed away of natural causes peacefully in her home on August 10, 2021.   

She is now together again with her beloved husband of 72 years, Larry Pichman who preceded her in death. Elsie was born to Valentine and Amalia Hafner in Rock Springs, Wyoming on February 16, 1923. The family moved to San Francisco then to San Bruno, California where Elsie attended school. Larry and Elsie met as children and they were married on April 25th 1945. Their adventure began building their forever home in Palos Park, Illinois which is where their love welcomed 4 beautiful girls into this world.

Elsie was a loving and devoted mother of Valarie Bryant, Ginger Peterman, Vicki (Doug) Croall, and Vanetta (Fred) Wiegman.  A treasured Mema/Grandma of Ali Levinson, Carrie (Gabe) Westberg, Jason (Sarah) Wiegman, Christopher (Amy) Peterman, Amalia “Amy” Wiegman, Caitlin (Gbenga) Aleru, Matthew Peterman, and Kelsey Croall, Great Grandmother of Anna, Rebecca, Fern, Camden, Alexandria, Ava, and Kemi. Aunt of a niece and nephews.           

In her community Elsie was a prominent member of the Palos Park Pedal Pushers Bicycle Club; an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Woods Parish; world traveler with Larry which included a bicycle trip throughout Europe and hiking Machu Picchu, Peru; with her daughter Vanetta and granddaughter Amy, Three generations of strong woman. Elsie was proud to be a member of the 86th Avenue ladies’ sewing circle; Co-Girl Scout Leader; homemaker; gardener along with canner of vegetables and fruits from her garden. She will be missed by her family and her many friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.              

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday September 29th, 2021 at 9:00am until mass 10:00am at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church, 10731 West 131st Street, Orland Park, IL. The Committal and Inurnment: will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, IL. Ph:(815) 423-9958 meeting at 1:00pm at the Cemetery Public Administration Center. The service will start PROMTLY at 1:30pm where Elsie will be joining Larry.  At this time and with the committal being held outside MASK are not required but if you need to go inside to use the restroom or ask any questions you will need to wear one.  

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Our Lady of the Woods or Palos Hospice in memory of Elsie.

Arrangements for Mrs. Pichman and the family are under the care of Debbie Zefran Jerry.
