Everett P Hardel

Everett P Hardel

November 27, 1933 ~ December 4, 2021

Everett P. Hardel, age 88, of Crown Point, Indiana went to his heavenly home following a brief illness on December 4, 2021.  Everett was the son of the late Frances and Paul Hardel and is survived by his sister, Elvira Bard (97) of Utica, Michigan.

Born in 1933, Everett grew up in San Pierre, Indiana, and was a friend to everyone. Being a member of the Navy Reserves, in 1954-56 he was called to active duty aboard the U.S. Lake Champlain CVS-39, “The Champ”.  It was referred to the “straightest and the greatest” among naval aircraft carriers.

Everett raised his family in Valparaiso, Indiana from 1958 – 1999 where he was an active member at First Baptist Church.  His faith and devotion to God were exhibited through his leadership at church as a Deacon, Usher and Sunday School teacher.  While living in Morgan Township, Everett enjoyed sporting events, gardening and all things mechanical.  Everett loved participating in social events, both for children and adults, and the neighborhood children gravitated to his house as he made it the most fun house on the block.

Everett chose a career as an Operating Engineer for Local 150.  He earned the Top Union Card for his skilled execution on difficult jobs.  Contractors often called the union hall and requested Everett by name when they had a large crane or difficult job, which they knew required precision and skill.  Everett retired from Local 150 with over 50 years of dedicated service.

In 1999, he became a resident of Crown Point with his wife, Beverly, and they were active members of Living Hope Church, Merrillville, Indiana. Everett was Beverly’s co-team leader in the Oasis Senior Luncheon Program, as well as Sunday School teacher and mentor to kids in other church programs.  Everett was a great man of faith, and he loved the Lord, his family and others well.  He would be the first to tell you that he’s a simple man saved by God’s great grace and mercy.

Everett enjoyed spending time with his family: children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved Chicago Cubs baseball, taking trips to Branson, Missouri, talking politics, and he loved gospel music by the Gaither Vocal Band.  Everett will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Everett is survived by his WIFE: Beverly Hardel of Crown Point, Indiana; CHILDREN: Debbie (Don) Seefeldt of Westfield, Indiana; Tom (Ruth) Hardel of Naples, Florida; Dan Hardel of Valparaiso, Indiana; GRANDCHILDREN: Whitney (Freddy) Rojas; Kristin (Max) Hansen; Taylor (Josh) Miller; Paige Hardel; STEP-CHILDREN: Karalee (Chuck) Manning of Chesterton, Indiana; Rebecca LeRoy of Schererville, Indiana; Heide (Todd) Fallin of Leesburg, Georgia; and STEP-GRANDCHILDREN: Kristi (Robert) Soto; Sharon (Kenton) Otos, Austin (Brooke) Schmidt; Colton Schmidt; Josie (Dylan) Brown, Shelbi LeRoy; Meaghan Fallin; Savannah LeRoy; Derek LeRoy; as well as many nieces, nephews and 11 great-grandchildren who loved and adored him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 11, 2021, beginning at 12 noon at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. Glen Park Ave. (45th Ave.) Griffith with Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends may meet with the family on Saturday December 11, 2021, from 10:00 AM till 12:00 at White Funeral Home.
