Ada Louise Robertson

AUGUST 28, 1928 – MAY 24, 2021

Ada Louise Robertson was born on August 28, 1928 in Grenada, Mississippi to the late Sterling and Ella (Long) Jones, Sr. She was the middle child of seven. Ada (or “tutur” as her family called her) was raised in a Christian home where unwavering faith and Godly principles were taught and demonstrated. She confessed Christ as a teenager at the Brick Academy Baptist Church in Riverdale, Mississippi. She says it was then that she recognized the voice of God.

After completing her education in Grenada, Ada joined her sister Minnie and brother Sterling in Chicago. She soon met and married Robert “Sonny” Harris, to which her first son, Maurice, was born. Subsequently, after joining the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, she met Larry Robertson, Sr. After a short courtship, they married and had one child, Larry Jr. Larry Sr. passed away in 1996.

Ada and Larry supported the late Dr. John L. Conner in organizing the Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where she served for over 56 years. When asked why she stayed so long, she would say, “It’s hard to turn your back on something you helped to build.” She loved her church and supported every initiative to keep it growing. She was known for her sweet potato pie and her cornbread and sage dressing. Ada was not only a devoted Christian and church worker, she loved the Lord and made sure everyone knew it. Her testimony was internested in the words of her favorite song:

“I’ve had many tears and sorrows. I’ve had questions for tomorrow. There are times I didn’t know right from wrong. But in every situation, God gave me blessed consultation. He let me know these trials come to make me strong. Through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, and I’ve learned to trust in God. Through it all, I’ve learned to depend upon his word.”

Ada made her transition to pure being on Monday, May 24th. She will be missed by her sons Maurice Harris, Larry (Ramona) Robertson, Jr., granddaughters Jesseca and Jazzmin Robertson, her adopted daughters and caregivers, Joyce Moore and Perida Davis, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and a host of family and friends.

“I am like a bird, singing in the air. I’m free.”

A visitation will be held at Blake Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St. Oak Lawn, IL on Friday May 28th from 4pm to 7pm. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 10am on Saturday May 29th. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.
