Hugh Patrick Dennehy Sr.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our cherished Father and Grandfather Hugh Patrick Dennehy Sr. who passed away on May 15, 2025 at the age of 85. Hugh was born on October 15, 1939, in Ballybeg, Currow, County Kerry to the late William and Mary Dennehy. Hugh is the loving husband of the late Ann T. Dennehy (nee Gavin). Proud and loving father of Hugh Jr. (Nora), Mary Ellen (John), Healy, Michael (Margaret) and Annie (Tommy) Randell. Adored Papa to Connor, Michael, Declan (Abbie), Erin, Liam, Jack, Maura, Rory, and Clare. Great grandfather to his “Doddie baby girl Rowan.”
Beloved brother of Margaret (the late James) Flannery, and the late Thomas (the late Mary), the late Marie (the late Ilias) Karas, the late Catherine (the late Patsy) Lyons, the late Helen (the late Eamon) Moran, and the late Liam (Julie) Dennehy.
He was a treasured brother-in-law of Patsy (Martin) Brennan, Mary (the late Laurence) Daley, Michael (Patricia) Gavin, the late Thomas (Marie) Gavin, the late Robert (Karen) Gavin, the late Patrick (the late Josephine) Gavin, the late Peggy (the late Tim) Evans, the late John (the late Patricia) Gavin, the late Kathleen (the late Carl) Tiederman, and the late James Gavin.
A retired local 399 Operating Engineer member, he dedicated over 30+ years of service working at many locations throughout the downtown area. He finished his stellar career at the Orchestra Hall where his expertise helped bring countless performances to life.
He was a proud member of The Gaelic Athletic Association (G.A.A.), the St. Brendan’s foot ball club, The Harry Bolands Hurling Club, and his favorite calling, the ability to coach his sons, the Celtics.
As Papa always reminded his family, “I had my day in the sun.”
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22nd from 4pm-8pm located at Blake Lamb Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 23rd at 10am located at St. John Fisher Parish, 10235 S Fairfield Ave, Chicago, IL 60655. Interment will follow the Mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W 111th St, Alsip, IL 60803.
