Louise Agnes Collins

January 21, 1928 – February 16, 2021

Louise (Lou) Collins, nee Plotner, age 93 of Lisle, Illinois since 1959, formerly of Queens Village, New York, died peacefully at home February 16th surrounded by family. She was born January 21, 1928 in Dorchester, MA. Cherished wife of 67 years to the late Donald J. Collins. Loving Mother of John (Patty Ellen) Collins, Tom (Kristy) Collins, Maureen (Don) Gushurst, Pat (Mary) Collins, Dan Collins, Kathy (John) Weber, and Eileen (Dave) Walls. Adored Grandmother of 17 and great-grand mother of 13. Beloved sister of the late Al, Bob, Kay, Marge and Dick. Loving Aunt of many.

Louise was proud a graduate of Bishop McDonald High School and St. Josephs College for Women, both of Brooklyn New York, and she later earned her Masters in Education from National Louis University. She began her teaching career at the kindergarten level at P.S. 147 in Queens, New York. After settling in Lisle, she began a teaching and administrative career at Saint Joan of Arc in Lisle that lasted 50 years. A junior high Language Arts teacher for 35 years, she spent her last 15 years as Assistant Principal, and in retirement continued to work with the after school program at SJA in several different capacities. She was also, for a period of years, the proud owner and proprietor of the antique shop, The Little Red Schoolhouse in Warrenville. In addition to her own collectibles, she oversaw and managed various other dealers who showed their wares at her shop. Although in her last few years her memory failed her, her personality certainly did not. She was always unfailingly sweet, kind, polite, and funny. She was quick to smile and laugh, and would always let you know that “everything’s wonderful”. It was a true joy to spend time with her. She was an adored Mother and Grandmother and her family will forever miss her. A very special and heartfelt thanks to her amazing caretakers who looked after her and became great friends to her. D’arcy, Vicky, Jen, Joanna and Grace, our family was extremely lucky to have you in our Mother’s life and we will always be so grateful for the compassion and loving care you showed to her.
