Leni Weil
DECEMBER 11, 1922 – JANUARY 26, 2022

Leni Weil, nee Metzger, age 99. Loving wife of 71 years to the late Dr. Rolf A. Weil; cherished mother of Susan Weil and Ronald (Carla Tomaso) Weil; treasured Oma of Maddy (A.J. DelPrince) and Ellie; caring friend to so many. Leni was born in Stuttgart, Germany and in 1939, emigrated to America upon escaping the Nazi regime. She landed in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood where she reconnected with future husband Rolf. Together, they helped welcome German-Jewish refugees to the area and went on to found a retirement community for those same refugees, the Selfhelp Home for the Aged. Leni was a lover of hiking, traveling, and the piano, and in her later years she enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family and wonderful caregiver, Jing Mendoza. She was a strong, selfless, and warm woman who always saw the world with a “glass half-full.” Leni will be remembered for her zest for life and missed more than words can describe.
