October 5, 1958  October 1, 2023

Mike (The MGC) was born on October 5, 1958 in Chicago, IL as a first generation child to Irish-born parents, Michael Cronin & Katherine Cronin (O’Shea). The family, along with his younger sister Maryann Mullan (Brian Mullan), spent their early years on Avers Ave. near Ford City Mall. His parents hailed from Counties Kerry and Cork, respectively, and Mike traveled back often with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his local cousins, nieces Jennifer, Nuala, and Maeve, and nephew, Gerard, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael “Poppies” Cronin, and many aunts and uncles; most that still lived across the pond, of whom he was very fond.

He lived most of his adult life as a proud Southsider in Tinley Park. Mike is the father of two children; Brenna Colleen Horn-Cronin (Lisa M. Horn-Cronin) and Daniel Michael Cronin (Brianna Danta), with his former wife and friend, Mary Jo Hoskinson Cronin. He spent 40 years working for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and served as the Treasurer of his union, the Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in May, 2018. Michael became a grandfather on July 15, 2023 when Lisa & Brenna welcomed their daughter, Delaney Colleen Horn-Cronin.

Mike loved the Chicago Wolves and Blackhawks and playing roller hockey with his kids. He enjoyed the company and laughter of good friends, and his famous Sunday phone calls. He was loyal and kind to everyone he knew. He was especially fond of the four-legged friends in his life, Keta and Duncan, and found great joy in silliness and humor. It is with grieving hearts that we celebrate a life cut short from all the good things that were still to come.
