DOROTEJA “DARINKA” ROUS
Doroteja “Darinka” Rous nee: Copot, November 22, 1941- January 2, 2021 left our world but not our hearts…
Born in Gornja Bistrica, Slovenia to Ivan and Evelina Copot, Darinka met Anton Rous while in school in Crensovci, Slovenia and together they immigrated to Canada where they started their family (and then ultimately to the United States).
She truly was the love of Tony’s life and his beloved Zena for almost 60 years. Loving mama of Anton “Tony Jr.’ (Stefanija), Paula (Jeff) Szarek, the late Ivan (Eileen) Rous; cherished Mamca and Mati of Lydia (Eric) Bierhr, Andrew (Kristi) Rous, James Rous, Emelia, Andrea and Christopher Szarek, Cole, Evelina and Emily Rous. She was the proud great grandmother of Zoey, Brandon, Aiden, Parker and Trevor. Treasured sister, aunt, botra (godmother), cousin and friend to so many with relatives and family located in Slovenia, Canada and the United States.
Darinka was an active member of the Slovenian Catholic Mission, the Slovenian Catholic Center, Prekmurje Social Klub, Holy Cross Society and St. Anne’s / KSKJ. She could always be found in Lemont wearing her most beautiful attire, her perpetual smile.
Her passion was being with people, family and friends. She loved cooking, baking, swimming, and enjoying life Slovenian style, singing, dancing and telling jokes at the Slovenski Dom. You knew if Darinka was there, a good time would be had by all. She was truly a life force in the Slovenian community that comes along once in a lifetime.
The one thing she loved most of all was letter writing and sending out personalized cards with heartfelt messages to friends and family just to make them smile and brighten their day. It’s the personal touch she was graced with, that made everyone who met her, love her.
Darinka will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her absence, her smile, her faithfulness to her family, her church and her community leaves a hole that will be difficult to fill.
An open casket visitation will be held outside of St. Mary’s Slovenian Catholic Mission Church, located at 14246 Main St, Lemont, Illinois, starting at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday January 9, 2021 until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m.
Due to the on-going pandemic and social distancing requirements, mass attendance will be limited to immediate family in the church. For all those who wish to share in the service, it will be available to view from your vehicle outside of the church or in the comfort of your own home.
