Janice D. Tucker-Rogers

January 14, 1972 – January 7, 2021

Janice Delores Tucker-Rogers was born in Chicago, IL on January 14, 1972 to her parents Henry B. Madison who proceeded her in death, and Ruby M. Tucker. Janice grew up as the youngest of 3 girls. She gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Janice served as an usher at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church & Evening Star Baptist Church. Through times in her life, she was very aware of the presence of the Lord, and anyone who was unsure where her help came from, she was quick to make sure you knew, she was not lucky, she was blessed!

Janice received her education at Lindblom High School where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, there were no children from their union. She later attended Robert Morris University and received her Associates in Applied Science Degree, Concentration: Business Administration in 2011 and her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree, Concentration: Health and Fitness Management in 2013. She spent more than 20 years in the financial industry as an accountant. Janice was a part of the University of Chicago family since 2017 as an accountant.

Janice’s greatest accomplishment was becoming a loving and devoted mother to Ira (Mookie) and Francisco (Puncho). Janice was loyal and a fierce protector of those she loved dearly and always there when you needed her, no questions asked. Janice loved hard and had a hard exterior but was soft as a marshmallow on the inside. She loved her family dearly and often spent hours laughing and joking with her mom. If she got you on the phone you had wait until she was tired because if you ended that conversation before she was ready, she had a way of letting you know she wasn’t pleased. Janice preferred spending her time travelling with her loving partner Frank and her kids.

She leaves to mourn her loving partner of 15 years Frank Herrera, two sons: Ira B. Edwards, Jr., and Francisco Herrera; five brothers, Tommy Johnson (Jessie) (San Diego, CA), Henry Deloach, Lajohn Johnson (Chicago, IL), Andre Johnson (LaShean) (Detroit, MI), and Fredrick Kennedy (Sandra) (Aliceville, AL); six sisters, Julie A. Tucker, Jeanette M. Tucker-Smith, Latina Watts (Dwayne) (Chicago, IL), Annie Dell Madison (Minneapolis, MN), Beverly Richardson (Kankakee, IL); Debra Richardson (Katy, TX); three uncles, Jim Madison and Willie Madison (Chicago, IL), Alex Johnson Jr. (Chicago, IL), four aunts, Essie B. Madison (Aliceville, AL); Annie R. Johnson-Tarver (Los Angeles, CA), Lethia M. Johnson-Isabel (Columbus) (Missouri City, TX), and Mary L. Johnson-Marshall (Ft. Worth, TX), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and esteemed colleagues.

Janice knew everyone who loved her, and as she would say, “Let’s be clear,” she loved you all right back.
