Winifred (Winnie) J. Hughes (nee Henaghan) age 96, born in County Galway, Ireland. Devoted wife of the late John J. Hughes. Loving Mother of John (Debra), Thomas (Christine), Patrick (Yvonne) Hughes, Una (Anthony) Provenzano, and Mary (the late Michael) McQuillan. Proud Nana of Stephanie (Paddy) Gallagher, Jenifer (Brian) Podlasek, Jessica (Eric) Ruskey, Sean (fiancé Nicole Horta), Brian (fiancé Alexandra Fegan), Kayla (fiancé Mike Smith), Sarah, Kacey, Jake Hughes, and Giovanni Provenzano. Dear Great Nana of Patrick and Maeve Gallagher, Caleb and Aidan Ruskey, Cían Podlasek, and Lucas Hughes. Caring sister of the late Thomas (the late Bridget), the late Mick (the late Eileen), the late Christopher, and the late John (the late Ann Marie) Henaghan. Sister-in-law of the late Bridie (the late Tom) Masterson, May (the late Nick) Rochford, the late Chris (the late Jim) Butler, Margaret (the late Ed) Heidekruger, the late Tom (Mary) Hughes, and the late Ann (the late Patrick) Casey. Fond Aunt of many nieces and nephews, and friend to many.
Winnie was a proud member of the Galway Fellowship Club, an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, and beloved figure in the Irish Dance community, especially to the Blackbird Academy dancers.
We would like to express our sincere and deep appreciation to Mom’s devoted caregivers; Jennifer, Mary, Jem and Jade for lavishing Mom with infinite cups of tea, lots of laughter, and exceptional loving care for nearly four years.
Visitation, Friday January 17, 2025 at Curley Funeral Home 6116 W. 111th St. Chicago Ridge, IL from 3 to 8 PM.
Family and friends will meet directly at St. Christina Church, 111th Christiana, Chicago, Saturday, January 18, 2025 for Mass at 9:30 a.m. The Mass will be live streamed with a link that will be provided soon.
